On Saturday 11th July I had the opportunity to take part in a special conference day entitled Proclaim ’15 in Birmingham. This initiative is designed, as a response to Pope Francis’ Joy of the Gospel, to help us to build missionary parishes.
The day was filled with many blessings and many encounters with friends old and new. The concluding Mass was a faith filled joyful celebration that reminded me very powerfully that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. All that we reflected on and learned during the day flowed into our celebration and the grace of the Mass gave us renewed courage and strength to face the opportunities and challenges ahead as we seek to be evangelisers together.
It was good to receive practical tips in the workshops and to hear in one of them how their efforts flow into the RCIA with new seekers ultimately being prepared for further enquiry via the RCIA.
On a personal level I felt very proud (in the good sense of the word) as one of our Diocesan Evangelisation Team shared her faith story of prayer and evangelisation in the prayer workshop, the one compulsory workshop on the day. Our Cardinal too emphasised the need for us to allow the Holy Spirit to lead all our efforts in his keynote, lifting up the inspiring example of Mothers Prayers as a model for us.
Our Diocese is now planning two follow up events in the autumn so the journey continues…
