I love Holy Saturday and a day that begins with morning prayer, into which have been inserted the Preparation Rites. Found at #172 – 196 of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, they offer a degree of flexibility as to which is going to be included on this day. If the presentation of the Lord’s Prayer or recitation of the Creed has not yet taken place, then this is the time to do it.
It is also most likely the first opportunity to use the Oil of Catechumens, which has been distributed following the diocesan Chrism mass. It also marks the beginning of what is going to be a long and spiritual day ending with the Easter Vigil and celebration of the Sacraments of initiation. This new stage in the journey of faith, will continue with the period of mystagogy, as the new catholics [elect] continue to meet and share their experience of growing in faith together as members of the local church.
Do make known the new Catholics in your parish so they are warmly welcomed.
See if anyone wants to share their story of how they made the journey. Testimony is a powerful tool in evangelisation.
The Easter Vigil is a demanding time for all concerned, this might be an appropriate time for the catechists to meet together and relax over tea and cakes.P
