Wishing everyone a blessed 2015.

At the start of a new year, many of us also make resolutions – to get fit or to lose weight. We may also make spiritual resolutions but find ourselves despondent by mid January when we realise that the great plans have failed to materialise!

So here is a simple idea that might just last a while longer and, if you are one of the rare people who pull it off for a whole year will bring many rich blessings and smiles as you approach 1 January 2016! Many of us receive diaries for Christmas and may have already started filling in dates of birthdays – dental and hospital appointments – and holidays. Some of us may have had them for a while. The idea can use an existing diary or could be honoured with a little notebook of its own… it is, quite simply, a gratitude diary.

On every day this year, there will be things that you will be thankful for – gifts that God has placed in your life to delight – to comfort – to encourage – to challenge – and more. The chances are that most will be fairly small and, though noticed at the time, easily lost in the busyness of the rest of life. Spending a few minutes at the end of a day jotting down, say, five blessings or gifts will help you to remember and treasure them. Give God thanks for them as you go and, every once in a while – and, if you DO manage to keep it up until 31 December 2015, then spend a happy half hour or so remembering how God blessed you.
